A Museum Piece

In 2013, Keith Moore contacted me as he was looking to find a new home for his all original, including the seat cushions, Parsons Corporation-built 1959 Lake ‘n Sea 14′ Caribbean model (hull number 9475 0925). The tropical suntan and white boat even sat on the original Alloy brand trailer, made in Algonac, Michigan. Moore was only the second owner of the boat and it had never left Michigan. The original owner was Victor A. Labar of Flint, Michigan. Labar purchased the boat in 1959 and used the boat on Fife Lake when he was not working as a clerk for General Motors Corporation in Flint. Labar sold the boat in 2006.

In 2013, Moore gifted the boat to the Michigan Historical Museum as a permanent piece to their collection. In 2014, the boat was displayed at the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) as part of the Michigan Modern exhibit. The images below were sent to me before the donation to the Museum. An all original 1960 Michigan Fiberglass 16’ Arrowhead model, also in tropical suntan and white, also survives and is in a private collection. I will cover that boat in a future post.
